Weekend review :: Frameworthy.

I have art constipation. I’m thrilled to buy, then terribly slow to frame. It sits in its bend-proof tube for ages in the closet or, more shamefully, on the dining room table, uncurling upon itself and taunting the kitty to finish the job. Framing would require choosing a frame and then—gasp—deciding where to hang it. Cue paralysis.

But this weekend I stood up to my framing fear. Despite feeling crummy, I went, I searched, I…sadly did not conquer. I found one lovely frame, then went home with a box with a totally different frame inside. Which is why I need your help.

Specifically, with these four prints (each 8×10) of hand drawn vintage cameras by my friend and design partner Jeremy Slagle. He and his family gave them to us last summer.

They’re great, right? You can buy your own set (or one of vintage bicycles) here.

I have several “sets” of prints hanging, and I think I’d like to sprinkle these around, on tables and such, instead. I’d like a couple neutral frames, and a couple pops of color—maybe red and yellow to bring out my accent colors in the living room. If you’ve seen any frames you’ve loved lately, will you share your little secret?

What else can I tell you about the weekend?

I feel like I owe it to you to tell you the truth. My ribcage felt like it was collapsing. I missed an outing with friends. It’s still winter. It could have been better.

But—a positive! I began what is a Herculean task for me: the first deep clean (we’re talking dusting baseboards, wiping out cabinets, touching every surface seen and unseen by visitors) of the Little Red Brick House, the name we will use heretofore for the old foursquare we bought last summer.

I’ve been dreading it—and the toll it’d take on my body—but I’ve been so inspired (peer pressured?) by the progress people across the nations are making in their homes via Apartment Therapy’s January Cure that I dove in on Sunday.

Beyond that, I have a confession: I got a fake plant. The real ones are still alive (it’s only been a week, friends), but now I have this one that can be kept on a lower surface without threatening to poison my hungry cat. I also scored the pretty red vintage book for $5 at Objects for the Home.

Tell me, what do you think of these faux flowers from Objects? Might they pass as not-fake-ugly in these vases?

This amazing piece (Objects) would also be tempting—if I won the lottery.

Instead I settled for these two lovely kitchen towels (Objects), only $4.50 a piece. That’s better than a Target special! Of course, I will not use them for everyday. They’re just too pretty.

I’m excited this week to share with you a new post in the What I need you to know series, and a totally new kind of post, too.
